Kedai
Kopi Ali
Heck, I'm
sure you'll be asking where the heck this place is. Anyway, this is the
actual name of the place most people refer to as 'John Ali Kong' or 'Dato
Koyah' or 'THE mamak stall'. Undoubtly one of the most popular mamak stalls
in Penang, this joint offers the typical stuff with some signature dishes
like Roti Alikapta, Roti Hong Kong, Roti Chicago and other patries with
names of every type of geographical location imaginable. Also boasts a
killer nasi lemak. One thing I don't like is the slow service and the
taste of soap on the spoons. Argh. But then, it's the place to be if you
want to catch your friends or just want to have a chat in the 'noisy'
type of setting. Open till the wee hours of the morning, there's no worry
of getting there too late. One more thing, do try the 'maggi mee goreng
tomyam'. It's GOOD.
Kafe
Line Clear
Another famous
joint for teenagers, this place is quite famous among locals and foreigners
alike. Featuring an array of nasi kandar dishes as well as the typical
roti stuff. Must trys include Roti Cheese Telur and Roti Salad. Also has
fresh 'Susu Telur' and even 'Milo Telur'. Generally not as noisy as Shamoon
Rali, it's a great place to chat over a cup of 'teh ais'. Oh, did I mention
the 'teh ais' there is great? Not too recently, they have embarked on
an upgrading of sorts and the joint now features a more 'presentable'
and cleaner environment to dine at. Yet, you will never fail to notice
the cats hanging around waiting patiently for scraps of food to fall off
your tables. Overall, a great place to be, if you don't mind the heat.
Restoran
Zubaidah
Now this is a new place.
Located in Tanjung Tokong, we have only recently discovered this place.
Strong points? The clean setting, large screen TV that shows live soccer
matches and good food. The most notable among their offerings include
the deceptively simple 'maggi mee sup'. You'll have to try it for yourself.
The tandoori chicken is also out of this world. This place is usually
frequented by TAR College students as it is close to where they live.
The drinks here are also great. The 'teh ais' is very well-mixed with
perfectly proportionate tea and milk. The orange juicy is really thick
and not diluted like those sold elsewhere. What's the bottom line? This
is the place for you if you're looking for good food and a nice clean
place to eat.
Safari
Food Court
Sometimes,
we hang out at this place called Safari. My friends go there for the Duck
Rice while I kinda like the Western Food and Satay there. Nothing really
special about this place, it's quite your typical outdoor food court found
around the country. Anyway, being in Pulau Tikus, do be prepared for marginally
higher prices over here.
Tai
Thong Restaurant
Dim Sum at midnight? That's
right. This restaurant located at Lebuh Cintra is open till late at night
and offers a variety of Dim Sum and noodles. The price is slightly higher
than typical restaurants but if you're craving for Dim Sum at night, this
is one of the few places that you can depend on.
